Green Toronto Model UN Workshop / Mock Conference

From January 3rd to 5th, Green Toronto hosted a 3-day Model UN Workshop at Upper Forest Hill Education Centre. Thirteen students aged 13-14 years old were taught the fundamentals of Model UN and how to prepare for conferences by Coach Ana of AmbassadorHQ. The workshop culminated in a mock conference on the final day, where each student was assigned a country in the UN Security Council and given the topic of the South Sudan famine. Over four hours, delegates gave speeches and debated various subtopics of the issue; for example, how environmental challenges and climate change have affected the country. Finally, delegates collaborated with like-minded countries to present their draft resolutions to the committee. After the conference, the delegates were given detailed feedback on their performances.

This workshop was an immersive and supportive introduction to Model UN for beginner delegates. The students learned about international relations and practiced diplomacy and compromise.

Thank you to Green Toronto volunteers Agnes Yang, Briana Han, and Bob Liu for their help in planning the workshop and supervising the students, as well as to Green Toronto co-founders Andy Song and Sophie Li-Fikree for co-chairing the conference. Special thanks to Coach Ana and our sponsors, Upper Forest Hill Education Centre and AmbassadorHQ for making this workshop possible!
